Day 1

Arrive at Paro International Airport, enjoying one of the world’s most dramatic Himalayan landings. After a warm welcome, travel to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, following a scenic river valley route.  Later, begin your introduction to Bhutanese culture with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten, a central place of daily worship, before exploring local craft markets and artisan areas.

Day 2

A full day exploring Thimphu’s cultural and spiritual landmarks, offering insight into Bhutan’s unique balance of tradition and modern life.  Highlights may include the monumental Buddha Dordenma, panoramic valley viewpoints adorned with prayer flags, the Takin Preserve and historic dzongs reflecting Bhutanese architecture and governance. Time is also set aside to explore local markets and cultural institutions.

Day 3

Travel east to Punakha, crossing the scenic Dochula Pass (3,100m), with sweeping Himalayan views on clear days. Walk among the 108 chortens before descending into the subtropical Punakha Valley, known for its rivers, rice fields and historical importance.  En route, visit Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple associated with the Divine Madman, approached via a gentle village walk through farmland.

Day 4

A full day dedicated to the Punakha Tshechu Festival, held within the impressive Punakha Dzong at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.  Witness sacred Cham mask dances, ceremonial rituals and religious performances dedicated to Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). Your guide provides cultural context, helping interpret the symbolism, stories and spiritual meaning behind the dances.  The Tshechu is also a major social event, offering a rare opportunity to observe Bhutanese community life in an authentic, celebratory setting.

Day 5

Return to Paro Valley, enjoying changing mountain landscapes along the way. On arrival, experience Bhutan’s traditional attire — Gho and Kira — offering insight into Bhutanese identity and customs.  Visit Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), a fortress-monastery overlooking the Paro River, followed by the National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong), which provides a comprehensive overview of Bhutan’s art, history and culture.

Day 6

Early start for the iconic hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Bhutan’s most revered spiritual site, dramatically perched on a cliffside above Paro Valley.  The forested trail passes prayer wheels and viewpoints before reaching the monastery, associated with Guru Rinpoche’s arrival in Bhutan. The hike offers both physical challenge and spiritual reward.  The afternoon is free to relax or explore Paro town and local markets.

Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure, carrying with you lasting impressions of Bhutan’s festival traditions, landscapes and spiritual heritage.
