This 5-night itinerary covers Bhutan’s cultural heartland — Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha, including visits to iconic landmarks such as Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Punakha Dzong, and Buddha Dordenma.
Most tours are designed to provide a seamless experience, with all logistics arranged in advance, allowing travellers to focus entirely on the journey. This itinerary is ideal for first-time visitors seeking a well-balanced introduction to Bhutan’s culture, landscapes, and spiritual heritage.
Is the Tiger’s Nest Monastery hike difficult, and is it worth it?
The hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang) is considered moderate in difficulty. It typically takes around 4–5 hours round trip, depending on pace and rest stops. The trail gradually ascends through pine forests, with viewpoints and a café located halfway.
While it requires a reasonable level of fitness, the experience is widely regarded as the highlight of any Bhutan tour. The monastery’s dramatic location, perched on a cliff at over 3,000 metres, combined with its deep spiritual significance, makes it one of the most iconic landmarks in the Himalayas.
For travellers unable to complete the full hike, partial routes and viewpoints still offer rewarding views.
What is the best time to visit Bhutan for this itinerary?
The best time to visit Bhutan is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).
Spring offers blooming landscapes, mild temperatures, and clear mountain views
Autumn is known for crisp air, excellent visibility, and major cultural festivals
These seasons provide ideal conditions for sightseeing, scenic drives, and hiking, including the Tiger’s Nest trail.
Winter (December to February) is quieter with fewer tourists, while summer (June to August) brings lush greenery but occasional rainfall.
Why are Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha included in most Bhutan tours?
Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha form the cultural and historical core of Bhutan, making them essential destinations for any first-time itinerary.
Paro is home to Bhutan’s only international airport and the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery
Thimphu, the capital, offers a blend of tradition and modern Bhutanese life
Punakha is known for its stunning valley landscapes and the magnificent Punakha Dzong
Together, these destinations provide a complete overview of Bhutan’s architecture, spirituality, and natural beauty within a manageable travel distance.
Do I need a visa to travel to Bhutan, and how is it arranged?
Yes, all international travellers (except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives) require a visa to enter Bhutan.
The visa is arranged through a licensed tour operator as part of your booking. Once your tour is confirmed, the operator handles the visa application process on your behalf, and you will receive a visa clearance letter prior to arrival.
This system ensures a structured and well-managed tourism experience, aligned with Bhutan’s “high-value, low-impact” travel philosophy.
What kind of accommodation can I expect on this tour?

The Tiger’s Nest Monastery hike reaches higher elevations (around 3,120m), but the gradual ascent helps minimise altitude discomfort.
